Not an Avvy pro, but here is a layman’s account: I hiked to the base of Pinnacle gully to scope out a future climb of the route. I went up middle-left of the ravine, staying in or on the right side of the exposed boulder field. I descended a little further to the left, to the looker’s left side of the exposed rocks. There seemed to be exposed base snow that was very dense and firm. My crampons and ice axe bit into this snow well and only the crampon points sunk in. My ice axe would sometimes just sink in 1-2” but go most of the 57cm shaft in others. This was the condition for the majority of the slope I covered. There were also areas along my climb that seemed to be wind blown drifts. There was a hollow-ish sound stepping into some of these, so I mostly avoided them. I did not hear any “whumphing” or see any cracks/movement. I was in the ravine from 2:05pm to 3:00pm. Weather was mild. Some moderate wind gusts but overall quiet. My stride was confident and I let my crampons bite in, knowing the sliding fall hazard for the day. Thanks to the MWAC team for all the work they do.
