Quick report
Planned to tour Edith Creek/Mazama Ridge area staying on lower angle slopes to avoid possible wind slabs formed earlier in the week (and buried yesterday making them hard to identify). Quickly found that warm temps yesterday and overnight freeze had formed a 1 cm breakable crust (1F~P) that made for very poor skiing. Did not notice any reliable way (aspect/trees) to avoid the crust so retreated to the car. Lots of roller balls and shedding from cliffs yesterday. Wind: moderate Snow transport: moderate Precip: S1 becoming S2 by noon Sky: OVC with the cloud layer not far above our elevation making for flat lighting
Avalanche
Got a brief view of a crown on the SE/E slopes off of Pan Point (not the one near the skin track reported 2/17). From a distance the crown looked clean/crisp so must have happened after or towards the end of yesterday's snow. Likely D1. Can't say whether it was human or naturally triggered.
