Carpenter Ridge

Snow cover in this area remains overall shallow. Snow depths on NNW-N-NNE aspects became over a foot deep above about 8,300'. At 8,900' there is two feet of snow cover on due north aspects. Snow cover thins as you move to NW or NE aspects. It is patchy on E aspects and bare ground on S aspects. On NNW-N-NNE aspects there is a supportable mid pack above about 8,400', but there are still many obstacles to hit.

We found some remnants of buried surface hoar around 10 cm or so below the snow surface in both snowpit locations. In this specific area, the surface hoar was relatively small at 2 to 6 mm, patchy, and unreactive. There was new surface hoar on the snow surface in open areas below treeline. This is not a current concern until any notable snowfall enters the weather forecast.

There were signs of the NE winds event from Nov 21-22, but scouring was limited.

We dug two snowpits in northerly aspect terrain. This first pit was at 8,460' and the second at 8,880'. Both held remnants of unreactive surface hoar.
