Went out with the Galena Back Country Patrol for some rescue drills and transceiver practice. Traveled up to Avalanche Peak area from the Anti-Cross parking. We kept our terrain mellow and avoided avalanche terrain. Felt and heard several snowpack collapses (WHOOMPH), between 8,900'-9,300'. Most collapses were felt when several (4+) people were standing in an area, one collapse occurred from just the weight of one person. Snow was heavier in the morning, with not much accumulation. The wind never really picked up where we were traveling and no snow was seen being transported. We were able to make some wiggle turns down a SE face around 9,000' without hitting any rocks or getting hung up on sagebrush. However, there are still some early-season hazards lurking beneath the surface.
