Despite several days of NNW winds, there is still sufficient snow available for transport at mid and upper elevations. Observations included drifting snow on top of Peanut and other high peaks, as well as evidence of recent wind-driven avalanches.

This avalanche likely occurred sometime after a group traveled into Pio on January 10. Observations today indicated strong winds blowing over the ridge, yet the crown appeared relatively sharp and well-defined, suggesting the avalanche may have released within the past 24 hours. The slab exhibits characteristics of a wind slab with varying thickness but likely failed on a layer of persistent weak grains. Crown depth is estimated.
