The snowpack was frozen when we started out this morning at around 11am. We started off playing on sunny slopes where the snow was just starting to thaw from overnight. As the afternoon warming progressed the upper snowpack started to get pretty slushy and we suspected loose wet avalanches would start coming down shortly on sunny slopes, so we moved to shaded north facing slopes and found some dry powder still. At 2pm in the shade at treeline the temperature had reached 7C. We had some feathered visitors in the area and it felt like spring had definitely arrived! We headed home around 3pm to avoid being out during the hottest and most dangerous part of the day.
