We observed widespread evidence of slides that occurred during the warmup and rain event last week. There was about 2-3” of new snow on a supportable crust. Moderate winds have affected this new snow making skiing quite variable on open slopes ATL. We experienced cracking and isolated wind slabs. Skiing in wind protected areas at or below treeline on relatively low angle slopes yielded the best skiing. We observed a HS of 93 cm at 6400’ suggesting we lost approximately 30 - 40 cm of snow depth during the rain event. We previously measured a depth of 118 cm on November 9 in the same vicinity. Overall we experienced very stable snowpack. The faceted layers below the rain crust will be something to keep in mind going forward.
