Quick report

We found a wet snow surface in most of the terrain we traveled in today. We observed widespread wet loose slides on all solar aspects that have occurred since the start of this warm-up.  Any surficial crusts that formed last night broke down quickly on solar slopes. Water has pooled in several places in the upper snowpack, including in and above 03/12. We did not observe any wet slab avalanches, although the setup is there. 

By 3:30 PM we could push off roller balls and very small, loose, wet slides on steep E and SE.

Skies began mostly cloudy before clearing by afternoon, cloud cover returned around 4:00PM. Ridgetops winds were mostly from the S and SW blowing moderate to strong this morning, taking a break this afternoon, and ramping back up to moderate and strong gusts by 3:00 PM.

Snowpack

A weak surficial freeze overnight built a thin crust that broke down early in the day. Water has made it through the entirety of the snowpack on SE-facing slopes at 8600', HS: 170. On NE and E at 8300' and 8600', water had pooled above 03/12 (down ~55cm) and down about 35cm. We found perc columns below 03/12 on E. However, it is hard to say if those were present before this most recent warm-up. Snowpack stability tests yielded no results on 03/12. Surfaces were weather and winded near ridgetops, and in the little bit of upper elevation W-facing terrain, we traveled in today—helping stave off any water movement. On due N at 8700' just below a heavily winded ridgetop, we did find dry snow just below the surface crust. 

In short: Water has made its way deeper into the snowpack on the E, SE, and NE between 7800' and 8800'. It's likely there to stay until we see a pattern shift to cooler temperatures.

We observed widespread loose wet slides that have occurred since the start of our warm-up on Monday. Only two of these were D2 in size, and involved some cornice fall.
