Cloudy all morning with some flurries in parking lot becoming a more steady light snow by 1 o'clock. Little or no new accumulation was observed before leaving.
Snowpack
Very firm and supportive crust both by flotation and boot throughout the hike. About 1-2 inches of new snow on top of a thick crust above 4600 ft. Lots of previous wet avalanche activity from last week's rain. Dug a basic snow pit near artist point to see how far crust extends into snow and it was about 20 cm with P hard snow below and above a thinner crust. The late December crust was about 4 ft down.
