Glen Lake

Toured from Glen Lake Trailhead to Glen Lake Peak. Was able to drive the trail head with a 4wd higher clearance vehicle and some courage. Temps stayed under 32 during the entirety of our tour, and the skis were cloudy, but cleared out on our drive home. Winds were light in the morning, but increased as the day and elevation increased. Observed no avalanche, no whumpfing, but did skin through some small wind slabs that cracked under us. Our skin up indicated that one major concern would be these isolated wind slabs. Dug a pit at about 8400 ft on an Eastern aspect, ECTX. The snow packed seemed to be a solid block. We were able to shovel shear several different weak layers, the most concerning being about 6in up from the base, which consisted of a thick ice layer. The entire pack broke at the bast with the shove shear there. There were several other thinner layers which we got to break as well, but it was very difficult to figure out their cause.
