Avalanche
We skied the Gold Couloir from Kootenai point on Friday, ascending the NE ridge from the TH. The weather was overall calm. No wind, overcast, and light snowfall. We read the forecast and were aware of the potential for sloughing and wind slabs. I ski cut the entrance to the couloir safely which did not have a wind slab, expecting the new snow to slough. The new snow easily sloughed and ran for hundreds of feet. 50 feet to my left, the couloir has a more easterly aspect which was wind-loaded and upon making a few turns in the gut of the couloir, I triggered a small wind slab on this more easterly aspect of the couloir that slid for about 3/4 of the couloir's full path. The slab broke about 50 feet wide and was 6-12 inches deep. I was not surprised and was in a safe controlled place to stop. The slough skied well to the bottom of the couloir. We made a short climb to the west and skied the lower mellow section of the "Exit Bowl" down to the creek.
