Rubicon Peak

We toured up to the summit of Rubicon peak this morning. Snow conditions on the way up varied from melt freeze crusts, cold snow and wind effected snow near the summit. On shaded aspects I did observe small surface hoar starting to form but was limited to protected areas below treeline. High grey cloud cover did reduce the solar input on the surface ultimately slowing things down on solar aspects but I did observe some wet snow on a south facing aspect near the summit around 1100. This was my only observation on solar aspects because most of our time was spent on northerly aspects after that. From the summit we looked into desolation for signs of instability but none was observed, we did see lots of wind affected areas from Saturdays wind event. Riding conditions on shaded aspects held cold supportable snow that was enjoyable riding  and did not present any signs of unstable snow from the summit to the truck.
