While skinning on flat open terrain at 1300m we heard a whump that was so loud we initially thought it was avi control from LL. On second (and subsequent) occurrences we confirmed it was whumpfing. These occurrences were not in avalanche terrain but it was enough to end any idea of skiing for us today. The acoustic effects of it seemed to surround us like dominoes falling. Spooky. We skinned to 1460m and dug a pit in a W aspect: Probed 85cm Nov rain crust 65 cm down CT produced results @ 14 on rain crust (x2) We did not observe any failures at the basil facets
