Quick Observation

More exploring around Atlin. Today we went south and sledded up the Eldorado access gaining elevation to treeline on the trail. We sledded in the alpine to the base of Sentinel Mountain. We saw debris from an older size 2.5 avalanche triggered by a cornice drop on a north aspect that pulled out a slab across the slope 150m wide and ran 300m long. The debris contained some car sized chunks of cornice! We skiied one run but with the windslab and hollow feel of the snow surface we played it safe and backed off large slopes. Sledding was good fun in the alpine, travel conditions were mostly good with the exception of facets in the willows. It was warm (-2 in the alpine and +3C at valleybottom by afternoon), with a moderate south wind and clouds in and out thru the day.
