Quick Observation

At treeline and above the winds had transformed any recent snow into hard slabs. Below this is a weak layer of decomposing snow crystals that were producing stubborn results in snowpack tests. Although this layer could be difficult to trigger there is a chance that the avalanche could step down into the weak sugary snow near the base of the snowpack. Access to the ridge was impossible without ski crampons so we "skied" tree line slopes back down to the sleds.
