Happy New Year! Went for a short ski tour out at Barnes Lake today to check on the snow pack and see what this next wave of snow will be landing on. We found about 150 cm of well bonded snow that was unreactive in our tests (see photo). It was snowing lightly but not more than a cm or two all day. Winds were mainly calm but gusting to moderate from the south. We saw no recent avalanches nor any cracking or whumpfing during our skin up or ski down. Its been fun exploring during the lower avalanche danger this week but we're ready for more snow and with that a step back in the size of terrain we'll be going into.
