We are a Pro 2 class on a multi-aspect tour of Tincan. Our objective was to find areas with less skier traffic to take observations. We made our own skin track up to CFR, staying North of the common skin track. Up to about 1600ft, we experienced significant whumpfing. In our pits, we found poor structure and unstable test results. We experienced significant whumpfing and cracking up to about 1600ft. We noticed small features releasing tiny slabs below 1500ft (Picture included).

Weather

The visibility was better than expected, and the temperature was pleasant. The winds were calm, and the sky was overcast.

Snowpack

We dug pits on both sides of the CFR ridge at 2100ft. The snowpack structure we found was poor, resulting in unstable test results. We found a very similar setup to what we've seen at Sunburst and Summit over the last couple of days. Roughly 40cm of new snow over a crust facet sandwich. This crust facet layer is visually obvious in our pits and feels very hollow when probing with a ski pole. Below the crust facet sandwich is a series of crusts and facets. These layers are thicker and more dense and have not been reactive to tests. On the north side, the snow height was 160 cm. The layer of concern was 50cm down on a crust facet combo (test results ECTP11, PST25/100END). On the south side of the ridge, the snow height was 200cm. One of our pits only had 20cm of snow on top of the crust facet sandwich (ECTN12). About 40 ft over, we found the weak layer 40cm down and had unstable results (ECTP14, PST15/110END).
