Seattle Flats

Our snowmachine level 1 course traveled around seattle flats today and observed heavily wind affected snow. What wasn't blown to ground, was primarily composed of knife hard wind slab over facets. Our group observed an old (over 48hrs) D1 wind slab roughly 8-13 inches deep on a southern aspect around 900' in elevation. It failed on a layer of facets overlaying an additional knife hard layer (see photos). We did not leave seattle flats due to undesirable surface conditions. Cold, clear, and calm all day; warmed up throughout the day.
