Observation: Days Draw

Went out to Days Fork to see if there was any soft snow left in the trees. Temperatures were in the low 30s with very mild wind. The sky was mostly clear in the morning but became much more overcast around 1:30pm when we left. Even the shady aspects were starting to get damp from the greenhouse effect as we finished our tour. We did not experience any collapsing or cracking on any of the slopes that we skied.

The snow depth around Days Draw ranged from 75 to 90cm. We dug one snow pit on a N/NE facing slope at 9,200ft. The snow was only 75cm deep, but still had an 8cm layer of October facets. The November snow was also really starting to decompose due to the shallow depth. Extended column test results were ECTP15. The column propagated on the thin layer of facets above the very faint October crust. Areas with shallow snow continue to show signs of avalanche potential.
