I found lots of faceted snow up in Steep Hollow, with the snow especially soft and sugary in shallow rocky areas and in the forest. Even in deeper areas, the snow was pretty soft overall, with larger grained depth hoar in the basal layers and obvious near surface facets problems higher in the snowpack....

We found pretty nice shallow powder conditions, but weak snow around buried obstacles makes hitting rocks a significant concern.
