West Willow and Stevens Peak

Overall, we found a stable right side up snowpack. However, at 5,150' on a somewhat sheltered northeast facing slope we did find a decomposing rain crust buried 58cm from surface (about 2 feet) that showed propagation potential (ECTP22). Notably, as we climbed higher and over all height of snow increased, the prevalence of these decomposing rain crusts decreased. Snow on windward facing slopes at or above tree line is stiff and scalloped, but below ridgelines abundant soft surface snow remains. With no red flags and no other signs of instability we felt comfortable cautiously stepping out into bigger terrain today.
