Quick report
Took advantage of the sunny weather to get some spring turns in. The snow on Trestle Creek Rd. starts at ~4500 ft and stays fairly consistent all the way to the Bee Top/ Round Top summer trailhead where our trip on skis started. Lots of snow up high in the mountains. We measured over 230cm of snow on a NW aspect at ~5600ft. The few days of above freezing temps meant that there wasn't a solid refreeze overnight but the northerly aspects were still firm enough to confidently travel in and made for good skiing. We observed old cornice falls on E/NE aspects (past week or two?) and loose wet sluffs off steep rocky terrain. By 11am anything southern was fully cooked. We were easily able to trigger a small loose wet slide on a test slope. If you aren't on dawn patrol it's probably worth avoiding steep south faces until we get some colder temps. Our group skied multiple laps on North facing terrain and we were headed back to the sleds before the snow got too soupy. Looking forward to many more spring missions!
