Mavericks

Morning began with about 10-15cm at the Bradley Taggart lot with what seemed to be a rime crust forming in the open wind prone areas. Rime layer was less pronounced under the trees and dissipated in its thickness by around 8,000’. Grauple and wind began increasing in intensity around midday and trees were being bent thrown atop Mavericks with ease. While the rime layer was more reactive with ski cuts in the morning, as the storm progressed the storm slab (25-30cm in depth) began to show its hand on our subsequent runs. Rollovers began to crack and slide (though terminating since we were in benched terrain). Additionally slopes with exposure from the wind - which were moderate to strong from the South/South West - were becoming more stiff in their wind slab development. Visibility was hard to come by, so couldn’t decipher much for natural activity. However, the south aspect of the Ullr 1 ravine near the bottom had naturally avalanched by 1600. We also set off easily triggered D1-D2’s from both ski cuts and sympathetics while heading down snow devil ridge, both on the north side of the feature and on the south side (once enough snow entered the gully from the bottom it triggered from below).
