Quick report
Went for a few laps on Sunnyside. The Notch mountain environs are still asking a high price of admission, with plentiful exposed stumps and creekbeds present for the approach/exit. Started the morning under OVC skies with calm winds. Crested the undercast around 1800ft. Above 1800ft, skies were CLR, with remarkably calm winds. At treeline around 1800ft, found an HS of 55cm. surfaces were generally undisturbed by wind, with faceted snow/SH widespread at the surface as has been seen elsewhere in the zone. In areas, weak snow was upwards of 5cm deep. Above treeline, surfaces were variable, with evidence of recent wind scouring/loading. Despite recent wind, weak surface snow still present. Dug a pit at around 2600ft on a NW aspect in 82cm of snow. Found a concerning crust complex between 24 and 40cm up from ground. Profile attached. Certainly a layer to watch with the next significant loading event.
