In the AM I observed light southwest winds with a high overcast. In the afternoon, winds became moderate with strong gusts from the south. The cloud coverage was broken. Temps ranged from 28-30F.
Snowpack
At the lake I found 2-3" of snow with a lot of dry patches. Around 6,800ft I found about 14" of snow. And at around 7,600ft and up I found about 30in of snow on the ground.
I dug in the snow at 7,700ft and found a 1-2" breakable crust layer from recent rain. There was a skiff of new snow sitting on the surface with some surface hoar on open slopes. Below the surface crust I found some old broken snow (decomposing fragments) with some old surface hoar that Gabe found last week. This was buried down about 4" from the surface. Below this was a mix of crust sandwiches with old snow in between. Mid snowpack has a stout 8" rain crust. Below this rain crust at the ground I found the basal facets we have been finding (4F). I did have a sudden collapse on this facet layer in a compression test. This layer did seem more reactive than last week.
