Report from KSL News.
Around noon on Tuesday March 28th, we received a report of a snowcat triggered avalanche in the Morgan area which took the cat for a ride through a group of trees, overturning it in the processes and injuring a passenger. Details and location are still being sifted through, but bottom line... this was a close call for sure
Incident
From Morgan County Sheriff
At approximately 12:30 on Tuesday March 28, 2023 Morgan County Sheriff's Office responded to an avalanche near Hardscrabble. The incident involved 7 Morgan County residents on 2 snowcats. The avalanche buried 1 of the snowcats that was carrying 2 individuals. Thanks to the fast thinking of the 5 individuals on the other snowcat they were able to rescue the first individual (who was transported by ambulance to a hospital with a head injury but was in stable condition) and they were able to dig a hole so the 2nd individual could breath even though his leg was trapped under the snowcat. Once we arrived, along with others from Weber County, Morgan County Search and Rescue and Morgan County Fire and EMS we were able to free the 2nd individual who was transported by medical helicopter for a serious leg injury. Thank you to everyone who assisted in this rescue!
