Snowpack

Instability Comment

New snow feel Friday overnight into Saturday am. In this layer (still fresh and bonding) could prove problematic later in the season as we see more snow. Shovel shear and compression test resulted in a failure at about 14" deep.

Persistant weak layer from the ground to about 40cm above ground. Its the same layer of depth hoar that has plagued the snow pack the entire season. CT test showed a collpase at CT20 (20 taps) Q3, meaning, it wasnt a clean break. However, this layer is deep with alot of heavy dense snow on top of it. With that being said, a fracture/avi at this layer would be deep, heavy and violent.
