Pit was dug in a wind protected area on northeast facing slope. Temperatures were warm and it was snowing moderately hard. The storm snow was very touchy. Extended column test results showed propagation within the new snow (ECTP10) about 40 cm from the snow surface and then at the new snow/old snow interface (about 70 cm from the snow surface). Old snowpack was unresponsive. South facing pit was much less responsive. Dug a pit in a wind-sheltered area on a northeast facing slope at 6600 feet in the Big Holes. Weak layers (propagation) observed within the new snow at ~40 cm from the snow surface and also at 70 cm below the surface. Didn't get any response to the old rounding facets near the bottom of the snow pack. Dug another pit in Grove Creek on a south facing slope that was wind loaded. Snow depth was only 120 cm deep. The snowpack was much less responsive but still got results within the new snow: ECTN5 and ECTN80 at 15 cm and 35 cm below the surface.

Snowpack
Northeast facing snowpack was 190 cm deep with over 24 inches of new snow. There is a clear 4 cm thick melt/freeze crust at ~70 cm. Old rounding facets below. South facing slope was new snow on top of still very wet old snow near the surface.
