Horseshoe Bowl zone

This avalanche crown was about 800 feet wide and traveled 700 vertical feet into the meadow below.  A crown profile revealed clean failure on a layer of weak snow and surface hoar around 2 feet deep in a snowpack around 3.5 feet deep in total. Four other large avalanches were noted in the same area, all above  9,000 feet on NE/E facing terrain. All appeared to be around the same failure depth, with one older (~72 hrs) avalanche that appeared to have started within the most recent snowfall (less than a foot deep) and stepped down to weak snow several feet deep in a wind-loaded feature. 

Dry weather throughout November caused extensive faceting of most of the snow on the ground up until that point. Avalanche activity has been noted from Dec. 1st until today without any definitive taper in activity, and the continuation of remote triggering hints at the sensitivity and spread of this weak snow.
