Quick report
Seemed worth another pre-season observation to keep an eye on where persistent snow might be found.
First photo is the north facing terrain on the north end of the Mount Ogden massif. Most visible in the photo are Allen Peak, the Banana Chute, and Coldwater Canyon. There's obviously old snow throughout on NW-N-NE aspects, with snow at the highest elevations (8500+ft) having persisted since October.
The second photo shows northwest facing terrain on the south end of the Lewis Peak massif. High point is ca. 7400ft and the visible snow bottoms out around 6300ft. While obviously limited to very sun sheltered terrain, I was still a bit surprised to see snow quite that low. A similar story is playing out in Taylor Canyon, too.
Not pictured, snow on the south face of Ben Lomond persists in pockets down to 8000-8500ft, with consistent thin coverage above 9000ft or so. Strongs, Burch Creek, and other similar zones on Mount Ogden have clear spatial variability at high elevations with bare ground on SW-W terrain and snow still present on NW-N terrain.
