From email: "I remotely triggered the steep slope that is the absolute furthest north on the ridge. I was skiing above the steep rollover along the trees to skiers right, about to pull up because I did not trust the slope, when the slope below the roller released, and propagated 150' wide, following the ridge line to the north. The crown was 12-18" and looked to involve this week's snow and the snowfall previous to this week's. It ran about 100' vertical, slowed by thick trees, and did not propagate or fail the lower angled terrain below. The bed surface was a crust, about at the level where the NSF January layer would be, I think? The slope is more wind exposed than the surrounding terrain, and it felt like a wind hardened bed surface that had also warmed. The surface snow was not wind loaded, however- still fluffy powder. The bed surface looked to have surface hoar crystals laid flat after the SS had slid.
A pit in more sheltered terrain showed similar stratigraphy but a less hard layer in the January facets, ECTN 12 on the January facets. There was whoomphing in areas on the tour in."
