Quick report

Some days we go out, so you don't have to.  Today we went to the Middle Fork to thrash the brush and check on access for the last day of 2023.

  • Surface hoar and rime were clues that air temperatures had cooled from yesterday; however, the snow directly under the surface hoar was still moist.
  • Settlement cones around the alder indicated that the 7 cm (approx. 2 inches) of snow above the 2 cm 12/22 crust had consolidated over the past few days.
  • We did not observe recent avalanche activity or signs of instability.
  • We did not get propagation in our snowpack tests. There was too much brush. Snow depths varied from 40 to 70 cm.
There were no recent signs of instability or avalanches.
