Quick report
• This observation is about a week late, but I figure that it might be generally useful to others for coverage and access information. • Traveled into the Northern Flathead Range to take advantage of the quality overnight refreeze and tranquil daytime weather. • Reached the summit of Triangle Peak around 9am to find that all aspects were still very well locked up with below freezing temps lingering at upper elevations. • Originally had plans to ski a steep east facing couloir off of Triangle, but after realizing that this might be a firm challenging ski for many hours to come, I redirected and went for a long scenic ridge top traverse to the seldom skied Pyramid Peak. • Excellent supportable and fast travel prevailed through the afternoon and I reached Pyramid's summit around noon. • I opted to ski the less steep south face of Pyramid for fear that the steeper east facing path may have over ripened at this point. I dropped into the south facing glades at 1pm and found excellent corn conditions off the top and all the way into the depths of Deerlick Creek. • Snow coverage was good down to 5000', but seemed to be rapidly declining below this elevation. There was about 1 meter of snow in the creek bottom. • I returned back to Triangle Peak climbing steep north facing slopes to regain the ridge. Due north facing slopes held firm and corn snow would have never materialized on this aspect today. • Finished my tour with a west facing run off of Triangle Peak at 5pm and again found fantastic corn back to the Ousel Peak West Trail. Travel on skis was possible down to about 5300' on this aspect. • I did not observe any natural wet snow avalanches during my tour, however I would suspect that human triggered avalanches would have been easily triggered after 3pm on steep south facing slopes. •Returned back to my truck via the Ousel Peak West Trail. The trail is in good condition with minimal downfall to bypass.
