Storm check in the Swan Range:

  • ~4" New snow at upper elevations, trace at mid-elevations
  • Gusty West winds was blowing snow into isolated drifts that cracked easily under foot
  • Meltfreeze crust from previous week seemed omnipresent on E-S-W, less so on NW-N-NE
  • Crust was 1-2 inches thick and supportable atop dry snow at upper elevations.
  • Crust varied between supportable and unsupportable at mid-elevation and sat atop moist snow.
Isolated cracking in fresh drifts.
