Quick report

We went to the northern Swan today looking for recently formed wind slabs. It freezing rained on us for the entire day. A new crust blankets the surface. The surface crust limited the amount of snow availabe for transport.

  • No signs of instability.
  • No recent avalanche activity.
  • Recently formed wind drifts were unreactive to ski cuts and stomping.
  • Snowpits on south and east northeast aspects at middle and upper-elevations showed stable results with no obvious weak layers.

We found generally stable avalanche conditions. Unfortunately the new crust caps all of the good powder snow.
