We enjoyed a day off tour with excellent visibility in the Flathead Range.
- We ascended a forested east-facing ridgeline blasted recently by southwest winds above 5000 feet. There were dunes of hard slab that supported the weight of our skis above 6000 feet. However, most wind-affected snow consisted of a breakable 2-3 inch surface crust.
- Steep southerly aspects held a breakable melt-freeze (sun) crust from the valley floor to our high point of 6600 feet.
- This week's moderate to strong southwest winds left a widespread 1-3 inch thick crust from the valley floor to 6600 feet on southerlies open to the wind.
- Enjoyable settled powder was found on slopes sheltered from wind and sun.

It was a gorgeous day with mostly clear conditions and great views. There was no wind on our tour, although the House of Mystery corner had wind transport and other locations in Columbia Heights.
