Quick report
Cold windy mostly sunny day on east angle. Skin track was mostly visible but lots of wind transport in open areas. Dug a quick pit at 9840’ and found 115 cm snow depth on a 32 degree east se aspect. Of note were two buried sun crusts. One under 15 cm and a second buried 25-30 cm. Both crusts supported skiers on the climb but were easily breakable and skiable on the downhill. The light low density snow on the crusts did react fairly easily in the pit but lacked firmness of a slab. This crust was found on east-southeast aspects all the way to the summit and both crusts were 1.5cm thick. The rest of the pack was firm and consistent with only 10 cm of facets at the ground and did not react during stability tests. Will be interesting to see how these crusts hold up with more snow loading. Aspects with any northerly pitch lacked crust and seemed consistent and stable. Ridgelines held mild sastrugi snow that was surprisingly consistent and soft.
