Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Per the forecast, we found wind slabs ~3-4 inches deep on the north side of Oliver and witnessed cracking. Everything except that exposed pitch was still powder, albeit heavy. I was anticipating wind slabs on northeast and northwest aspects, but in this location at least the problem was more isolated than I expected. I was also expecting to find some cross-loading in the gully heading down into state line but did not. Perhaps it was sheltered enough or perhaps the snow at this elevation that got sun was a bit heavier, and thus less susceptible to wind-transport? No other instabilities, but we did probe with poles looking for the pwl throughout the tour and found it inconsistently distributed, as the forecasts have noted.
