It was another clear and Dry day with a short-lived increase in E and NE winds in the area. The winds had diminished by the end of the tour. Snow transport was limited due to hard or compacted surfaces.

Snowpack

Lower elevations to about 1800 feet consisted of a variety of decomposing surfaces, including rain crusts, wind slabs, and shallow patches of old faceted storm snow. Surface hoar was present in small patches up to a square meter in area but, for the most part, had been destroyed by wind and possibly warm temperatures.  Above 1800 feet  the surface snow became more consistant. Old decomposing wind effected powder interspersed with isolated hard slabs continued from 1800 feet to the ridgetop.  A hasty snow pit was dug at 2700 feet. A quick CT test resulted in no failures. The top meter of snow was uniform and moderately consolidated with hardnesses ranging from F- to F+. No obvious layers of concern were present.
