Quick report
Skied the NE face of Mt. Warren today, searching for some corn. We descended around noon, which would have been perfect, except for some clouds and even light graupel showers, which put a very thin crust on the top of the snow. However it still skied well, and after the first 400 vertical feet or so, turned into true corn and was excellent. There was some still transitional, wind affected snow on the more N aspects above 12k, but that was the last of the wintery snow we found. Travel both up and down Deer Creek canyon was very easy and enjoyable. We ascended from 8-noon, and all surfaces were frozen and supportable, although the refreeze was thin below about 9000’. On the exit, the corn was smooth, predictable and very supportable on the mostly N aspects, all the way down to lake level, with just a few sticky spots on less steep slopes. The gullies to the left and right of the mouth of the canyon stretch all the way to the road or very close to it, so there was less than ten minutes of dirt walking in either direction. Overall, an amazing day out! There were thunderclouds continuing to build as we exited, and our lightning app showed strikes occurring in the Tuolumne high country around 1:30 or 2 pm.
