Quick report
We travelled from 7500ft to 9800ft on NE and N aspects. In the shade and in trees areas, snow still felt cold and soft. On an open slope in V Bowl, snow was wind affected and beginning to feel hot and moist. In a NE facing chute, the snow ranged from wind board to soft but heavy snow beginning to consolidate. At 8400ft at the bottom of the chute, snow depth was greater than 3 meters. It felt hot in the sun. Winds were calm. Large pretty surface hoar was noted next to Lee Vining Creek. Signs of instability noted: small wet loose avalanche in the distance, roller balls on solar aspects. Evidence of a large old slab avalanche to looker’s left of cocaine chute.
