Quick report
Today our group toured the lower northwest end of Mammoth ski area. We found variable surface conditions as we toured BTL on several different aspects. On the north aspect we found cold unconsolidated surface snow. At around 9200’ on a north aspect we stopped to dig several test snow pits to the ground. The profiles showed a generally right side up snowpack. In some profiles we found a layer of faceted grains immediately above the ground, in other profiles we did not. We did not find any signs of instability.
