BWRA

I toured on ski and sled from Sonora Pass to Voodoo Bowl to Leavitt Lake today to see if I could find any reactive wind slab. I toured several aspects and areas and did not find it. What I did find was a mix of variable surfaces. Any slopes that were not protected or in the trees were scoured and wind swept.  Firm conditions existed almost everywhere and reverse or raised tracks were observed, a visual clue of the wind event that occurred this week. In the morning the east wind was blowing and I could see ribbons of snow being blown to the west in the Alpine.  

The terrain in the BWRA has been scoured of the new snow that fell earlier this week. Above treeline terrain consists of windswept snow panels with a visible crust in most places. In the trees soft snow exists yet is limited in coverage. This soft redistributed snow was found in isolated locations and varied in depth from a trace to 12".  There are a few surface crusts now buried below the new snow that fell at the beginning of the week. This was found only in sheltered locations. Everywhere else, the crust is on the surface.
