Elevation: 2800 ft Aspect(s): N, NW Air Temp: 0 °C Travel & Terrain Traveled on NW aspects up to the knob. No whumphing or cracking observed. Snow surface conditions were variable. Glazing observed on S aspects. Wind-affected snow present on exposed slopes. Snowpack & Tests Two pits were dug on N aspects. Total snow depth measured 55–65 cm. A ~2 cm crust was present ~10 cm below the surface, with rounding facets observed. Stability tests resulted in ECTX. Structure Primary weak layer identified at the base of the snowpack, consisting of basal facets and depth hoar. Hand hardness profile: F over 2 cm crust / F / 4F / 2F / 1F, over ~10 cm loose depth hoar and basal facets. Avalanche Problems Despite non-reactive test results, a persistent slab problem remains. Overall hazard assessed as MODERATE. Persistent slab failures remain possible, particularly on wind-loaded slopes and in areas with a thicker, stiffer slab.
