Toured up to Emerald Peak today - although it was -36'C at Samson mall in LL at 9am, it was a balmy -30'C at the Emerald Lake parking lot by 9:30. That being said, temps in the sun on the main path were circa -18'C around noon - almost felt like being on the beach in Mexico. Minimal wind effect observed in the alpine. Some minor sluffing but nothing problematic. Since I was accompanying an AST2 group, a pit was dug around 2450 on SE alpine aspect. HS of about 240cm, nothing of significance to note on the demo'd CT test. No significant obs either throughout the day. Although quite cold at the start, the sun sure helped make it a really good pow day although it didn't affect the surface snow. Minimal winds Loads of tracks in the lower half of the avi run, but still some good opportunites higher up in the 'pine. Biggest hazard was obviously the cold and the overhanging cornices on the ridge.
