Quick Observation

New snow in the last 4 days. We saw 2 avalanches. 1 in the picture was substantial in size class 2 and the other was small class 1. Both were naturally triggered appearing to be triggered at rock level. Both only the depth of the new snow.

Avalanche Information

We covered a lot of area. Into Crossing Creek Lake right to the very back Basin then into Smith Basin. We observed only 2 surface avalanches the one in the picture and one other very small one. We were vigilant and looking based on the bulletin that was out from AvCan but saw no other evidence. The 2 we saw were in two different Valleys and miles apart. Both natural and both only the top new snow layer. They did not slide or crack below this new layer. There is very little evidence of cornice creation in any of these areas as of yet.

Weather

Started out foggy but cleared up to few clouds. There was wind well above the treeline in the Alpine evidence was the blowing snow on the mountain tops.

Snowpack

The snow seemed to be very stable under our feet and sleds and under the new snow from last week. When digging sleds out we did not find a facet layer or a crust layer. We had some very stuck sleds!
