Snowy Sinclair

Today we found an older (24-48 hrs) snowmobile triggered avalanche. This avalanche failed on the early December surface hoar layer that is widespread in the region. It failed on relatively low angle terrain and was ~40 meters wide. This was enough evidence for us to be very cautious with our terrain choices. Surface hoar avalanches can "propagate"(travel across) very wide distances and have the potential to be triggered from below. We kept a safe distance from any large steep slopes.
