The ? was out for a few hours today near Elkford in the South Rockies. Snow stayed dry in the alpine and treeline on all but the steepest of south faces. We noticed a few small natural cornice falls that happened in the last 24 hours out of extreme terrain. We didn’t linger under corniced terrain, especially while the sun was beating down on them. Tomorrow's weather forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud, but freezing levels will be going up to 2000 m. With warming we are also starting to think about the potential for the deeper weak layers at the base snowpack to wake up again.
