AST 1 out at Bullmoose today. -19°C leaving town and warmed up to -4°C bluebird day. We dug our pit at 1650M on an exposed east facing slope. The upper snowpack consisted of 10cm of new snow that was reacting as a soft slab on a surface hoar layer that was buried last week, we found this soft slab layer to be highly reactive. We had failures in the moderate range, down 45cm (ECTP19) on the surface hoar from prior to the Jan. 17 wind event. Lee slopes and protected areas the snowpack was quite soft and offered good riding quality.
