Quick Observation

Maybe 5cm of fresh in places. Morning, low lying cloud made for light precip and zero visibility in the alpine. Sun broke through around 12 and was intermittent for the rest of day bringing the temp from around -7 at the start of the day to around -2 in the alpine. Dug pit around noon to find two layers of instability through CT at 60cm and at 100cm.

Snowpack

At 1930m @ ~25 degree slope angle CT 19 at 60cm planar failure CT 44 at 100cm planar failure Both interfaces seemed to consist of hard packed storm slabs. ECT confirmed both failure points but did not reveal any propagation. At 2070m west aspect @~35 degree slope angle Quick test pit revealed 2 distinct layers fairly resistant to shovel shear test. Overall, lots of variable wind effect in the surrounding area and cornices developing on north aspect of ridgeline (photo 2).
